According to the statement made by Hyundai India, the company wants to become the leading car manufacturer in India. Hyundai has earmarked a $860 million investment for a second plant to increase its installed capacity to six lakhs by next year.
To achive this goal, it also plans to introduce two brand new cars each year — like the much-awaited Verna (Accent), and a range of diesel cars.
Hyundai is also banking on its diesel cars to achieve this ambitious plan. In Korea the company has successfully developed a 1.2-litre and 1.5-litre diesel engines — both of which will be introduced in India soon. The 1.2 litre engine will be fitted on to the Getz, while a diesel Sonata and a 1.5-litre diesel Verna can be expected in India this year.
Not only that, HS Lheem, Hyundai Motor India, Managing Director also declared his intention to convert India into a global hub for Hyundai’s small cars that could help the company to in the European car market of which 40% is diesel.
