The biggest grudge, mortals hold against public transport is that it is ‘overcrowded and suffocating’. Designer Sergio de la Parra sees the solution in his design inPUT or Individual Public Urban Transportation concept. inPUT will work as a pod for public transport, taking commands via voice interface. Since the concept works on automated driving, it is linked to GPS and local transport system. Laser sensors work on identifying obstacles, while heat sensors monitor the exits.

Though it is a novel concept, it is likely to remain only so for years, maybe decades to come. For a start, dependable voice recognition is still a few years away, and that is the least of the problems. Moving automatically, dependent on laser sensors, we’re guessing this concept will need a lane all to itself, where the pods will move about in caterpillar like speeds while commuters sit inside and swear they’ll take the bus next time. The silver lining: at least you’re not stuffed in some darned train.
