Cars will soon have access to thousands of radio stations on the internet, thanks to a partnership between Blaupunkt and miRoamer. The result of this partnership is an internet radio that will be displayed at CES and will go in to cars very soon, giving the consumer more options in the in-car entertainment scenario.
For an internet connection, the device will first connect to a 3G/HSDPA/HSPA device via Bluetooth. While relying on a “third party device” is true for the first models, the makers say more models with built-in modems are in the pipeline. Devices with built-in modems could actually make a better impact than those connecting through other devices. The stereos have additional features like phone, address book and navigation, apart from the Internet Radio compatibility that is the new system’s hallmark.
