While the Ford owned Jaguar luxury car maker is about to debut with the new XF sedan at the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show next week, the company’s engineers are already in the middle of the next step.
Prototypes of the XF’s sportiest version, the R, have just now been photographed for the first time in the California desert of Death Valley.
The pictured test car hides its XF-R features under the body of a Jaguar S-Type, but the 2 double exhaust pipes together with the big alloy wheels and brakes are revealing its true identity. The XF-R badged flagship - most likely it will get power from a 4.2 liter V 8 engine - is going to fight against rivals like BMW’s M 5 and Audi’s RS 6.
However, the R-variant is not all there is to be added to the XF line up.After the XF-R expect a dynamically styled station wagon to unite the team, and even further down the lane a two door convertible could complete the model range.
