Jaguar is ready to replace the S-type with a new car derived from its X-CF Concept. The 2009 XF Saloon has been revealed before its official debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show. The new XF speaks Jaguar’s new design language for upcoming four-door sedans.
The company believes that with its new slick looks; the XF will break the ‘old and stodgy’ image tag that was pinned on its predecessor, the S-Type. The XF will come in four different versions, an SV8 with a 4.2L supercharged V8 that will pump out 420hp and race from 0-60mph in 5.4 seconds. The second version will be a naturally aspirated 4.2L V8 that churns out 300hp and races to 60mph in 6.2 seconds. The third avatar will be a 240hp 3.0L V6 followed by a 2.7L turbodiesel (210hp).
Petrol powered cars will be able to reach a top of 155mph while the diesels will have to do with 143 mph. Transmission for the XF will be a six-speed auto with steering wheel paddle shifters to allow gear changes without the use of hands.
The car also features LED headlights and a new transmission control that makes gearshifts quicker. A Bowers & Wilkins designed stereo is optional.
Chassis of the car has been borrowed from its predecessor, and is steel. But other metals like aluminium, composites and magnesium have been used as well. The car with V8 naturally aspirated weighs 1749 kg, but the weight of the supercharged SV8 flagship jumps to 1842kg. The wheelbase, measuring 2909 mm and the double wishbone front also come from the genes XF inherits from the S-Type.
