We’ve seen the weird-looking eight-wheeled Eliica a number of times, but then it was only a concept. Now it appears, that the concept is ready to move into reality and be mass produced. The Electric Lithium-Ion Car or Eliica will be the basis of the Electric Bus project to be developed by Keio University, Isuzu Motors Ltd, the Kanagawa prefectural government and Toshiba.

The Keio University is the creator of Eliica, and with a concept vehicle that can reach a top speed of 230 mph, we guess these will be some super buses Japan’s about to get. The looks may change though, since Isuzu will be taking care of the final body design, and so may the top-speed as the buses will run off Toshiba’s 120kWh lithium-ion batteries that are expected to provide 150km range on a single charge. The buses are scheduled to reach the roads by 2011.
