Moving on with its mid-size luxury crossover SUVs, BMW is getting ready with its latest offering, the X6.
Speculated to be launched in 2008, the much discussed all new four door 4×4 Coupe is currently dubbed X 6, The X 6 is said to offer techniques and four wheel drive features from BMW’s X 5, while its body styling is of the more elegant design of a coupe.
The prototypes of the new model have been driving around in various places in Germany, more or less disguised, some at least revealing a little of the front grille, but the shape of the rear end is still a big secret.
This jing-bang of Spy shots reveals a whole lot about the car. One of these spy photos were taken on the roads of Munich; revealing the new front end, whilst the others were taken during its Hot weather testing in the painful Death Valley.
What’s pleasing to see is the first Shot of the Dash Board .On the unpleasant side we have a car that gave up having gone up and down the mountains a few times too may, it is headed straight to the engineers garage for repair.
The prototype appears to have less ground clearance than the X5 and is lower but slightly longer. Low ground clearance should not be the case with an SUV but BMW may revisit its designs or offer an explanation that may give us an insight into why the lower ground clearance was opted for.
The boxy rear end disguise hides a sloping roofline, and all in all the car will be sportier in handling and dynamics than the X 5. While the latter can seat up to seven passengers, the X 6 is going to be a strict four seater, making it a very comfortable ride.
BMW is expected to use the most powerful engines from the X 3 and X 5 series for the new X 6 such as the Diesel from the X 3, which is the new 3.0 litre Twin-Turbo delivering 286 HP, or a fuel engine from the X 5, the 4,8 ltre V8 /367 HP. Some time later a V 8 Turbo delivering 420 HP will provide the X 6 with even more power and faster acceleration, thus another serious rival against Porsche will be on the road from next year onwards.
