The booming market for SUV’s has automakers working to bring out more new models, and especially, smaller ones that get relatively good gas mileage in this era of expensive gasoline.
BMW’s X3 has led the way for German manufacturers in this area, but recent spy photos have captured a new Audi Q5, and a new Mercedes, to be called the GLK. These latest shots capture various prototypes of the GLK driving through wet weather in US and Germany. The new GLK is expected to appear in showrooms sometime in 2008.
The GLK has boxy styling, and it looks like a miniaturized G-Class. Under the skin the GLK will be based on the platform of the C-Class. Engines will include a range of four and six cylinder models, both gas and diesel. Naturally, four wheel drive will be offered.
Besides the prototype shots, two computer generated images are also shown, the rear view is a file photo.
