The Beast:

The AltCar Expo 2008 in Santa Monica has been in the auto news for the past few days with the crazy concepts and new designs that it is bringing into limelight. The Lola EV is viewed by a few people at the Expo as the ‘poor man’s Tesla’. While the Lola is indeed a pretty cool electric vehicle, it really is no Tesla. Lola is a twin-seater with no doors and no roof. Just jump in the car and enjoy the sunny beaches of Southern California. According to its designer Steve Graber of Graber Cars, it is all about relaxed holiday mood.

The Machine:

Lola is powered by an electric engine that is custom crafted and the car can hit a top speed of around 70-75 mph. The electric batteries are placed in the fixed doors, making it a lot safer than cars which have the battery placed inside the hood. Paul Pearson and Steve Graber put the car together with all their EV experience and you could also get one custom crafted from them at $45,000.

The Thrill:

There is one catch in all this though. The car will come at a price of $45,000 excluding the battery as the folks at Electric Custom Cars are not authorized to build one. But otherwise, this is a wonderful EV that steals the show both with its look and impressive performance.
