Portugese company Luso Motors have a running prototype of the LM23 lightweight sports car based on the Lotus 23b. The lightweight car is built on a steel tube frame chassis, double skin aluminum alloy sheets that have been riveted and glued to foam reinforcements in the car. The panels/ outer skin are made of carbon fiber and fiber glass.
All these lightweight materials directly translate into an ultra light car that weighs just 881 pounds. For that weight, the 150hp 1.0-l Honda CBR engine should work pretty well. The makers, however say that the customers will get a number of engines to choose from, including a turbocharged Subaru Boxer. Carrying a price tag of €15,000 ($23,600) the car will go against the likes of Ariel Atom and KTM X-Bow.
