MADD, Mothers Against Drunk Driving organization is demanding that every vehicle in the US should be equipped with Alcohol detection Devices in a bid to cut down drunken driving accidents, which leads to thousands of deaths every year.
MADD believes that the conventional ways to check this fatal phenomenon are no longer working and technology could be the most appropriate way to check it. The holiday season is closing in which calls for an urgent action to be taken in this context.
A new campaign has been announced in this regard to change laws in 49 states, which will demand even the first time offenders to have an ignition interlock device installed in their vehicles. The driver will have to breathe into a kind off breath analyzer, which on detection of alcohol stops the car from getting started.
The success of this ‘to be launched’ plan can be ascertained by the fact that a similar campaign in New Mexico reduced the accidental deaths by 11 percent in 2005. Around 13,000 Americans loose their lives every year owing to drunken driving with Massachusetts topping the list. This law will be initially formulated for all first time offenders followed by all vehicles in the US enclosed under this decree.
