fast skinz

A while back, we heard of the ugly, dimpled vehicle-wraps from FastSkinz, with the promise that the golf ball effect created by these dimples would help in increasing fuel efficiency by 20 percent. We didn’t believe it would work, and Popular Mechanics just confirmed that, with a test drive.

They brought together two 2009 Ford Flexes with similar features, and decked one with the FastSkinz MPG-Plus. After the full drive, Ford’s MPG displays didn’t show any significant gain with the FastSkinz wrap, though they did show slightly less economy with the wrap. PM believes the results may be because covering the entire vehicle in wraps is “overkill” and the possible solution would be to identify areas on a vehicle where this would actually work. And that’s likely not happening.
