It seems Mercedes Benz is moving quickly to expand its market a lot further beyond those amazingly classy S-Class cars of it. I am sorry, but anytime someone talks about a Mercedes-Benz, which is pretty much, all I can think about. It is luxury, comfort and class that come to mind rather than danger and exploration skills. But the MaxiMog is exactly designed for the purpose of exploring the darkest and the most dangerous terrain on the planet. It is designed to give you the thrill and the chill. It is unlike your traditional view of what comes with a Mercedes Benz.
The MaxiMog Expedition System is a modular high mobility vehicle designed for exploring this (or similar) planets. Designed for flexibility in both form and function, it provides safe access and crew support to remote destinations. Consisting of a main vehicle, and a variety of mission specific accessories, it provides comfortable rapid transportation over highways and developed roads combined with the ability able to cope with extreme and hostile environmental conditions.
The first Maximog system will travel to California’s Death Valley and Lake Powell this summer after being on exhibit in New York’s Museum of Modern Art starting February 8th. The system was designed by Bran Ferren of Applied Minds and built by Thomas Ritter. The base vehicle is a highly modified Mercedes Benz Unimog chassis with a custom body, completely new power plant; computer controlled suspension, and integrated electrical, hydraulics and electronics systems. Many of the onboard navigation, power, lighting, communications, computation and electro-optics systems were developed specifically for this vehicle.
The Maximog is not just a road vehicle but a carrier designed to transport people in to the most dangerous places on the planet and bring them back safely. It is for this reason that the technical specifications and the communication equipment on board this vehicle are absolutely state-of-the-art and will help you keep away from danger. Typically, a bathroom, kitchen, communications/computing rack and motorbike system would be loaded for an extended expedition. It truly is one tough nut.
