The Beast

With a name that translates as “clean and pure” and a design that takes inspiration from pristine, flowing water, the Kiyora from Mazda has to be an electric car, right? Wrong! It uses a petrol engine assisted by the company’s proprietary technologies to meet low emission goals and offer “high fuel efficiency.” The Kiyora falls in line with Mazda’s 30% carbon footprint reduction objective and looks the part, too. It remains to be seen if the company can actually match its claims with this petrol engine.

The Machine

The 1.3ltr small car will adopt Mazda’s Smart Idle Stop System, which has earned quite a reputation in recent times. The SISS is designed to save fuel during a restart, following automatic shutdown while idling. Injecting the fuel directly into the cylinders for a quick crank-up, offers you great fuel savings every time. Mazda believes the Kiyora would achieve unmatched low CO2 emission levels of 90kg/m, thanks to this technology. To compliment this, the car has deliciously smooth lines, a light-weight body and 6-speed automatic transmission for the perfect balance between performance and fuel efficiency.

The Thrill

The fact that the Kiyora uses a DISI (direct injection spark ignition) engine, enhances its image as an eco-friendly car. Today, there is a natural inclination towards fuel-efficient and clean engines and Mazda has done its reputation no harm by furthering this cause. The Kiyora will certainly be one of the most awaited cars next year.
