Friday seems to be the day for major model launches in Japan. After Honda announced that it would debut its new Crossroad today, now Mazda says that the Custom Style series addition to the AZ-Wagon would reach dealerships in Japan on the same day.
What is special about the Custom Style that is not available in the regular AZ-Wagon? New interiors, for one, with black motifs and a snazzy instrument panel with a ‘glittering effect.’ I am not sure if this alone would make me fork out the extra dough of 1,197,000 yen for the two options available in this series - the Custom Style DI and Custom Style X. But Mazda has tweaked around a fair bit with the exterior with a new chrome grille and xenon headlamps and 14-inch alloy wheels. A new color called Mysterious Violet Pearl is available along with five standard colors.
If you love your music, you might keep your ears tuned for this little bit of information that Mazda packed in its press release: the Custom Style DI is equipped with a seven-speaker system that has front and rear speakers, a sub-woofer and the works.
The Custom Style X has a 660 DOHC VVT engine with a four-speed automatic transmission available in both front-wheel and four-wheel drives. The Custom Style DI is charged with a 660 DOHC direct engine turbo engine and is the less expensive option. The Japanese company is hoping for sales of around 2,200 units a month for all models in the AZ-Wagon range. Zoom Zoom is Mazda’s brand message and it remains to be seen if the Custom series will zoom its way to the top.
