Recently, I got the rare opportunity to interview the adept designer Leonid Lucenko who is a Venezuelan lad. Born on 24th August 1983, Leonid came up with the unique concept of SPIRIT- an electric vehicle that is emission free, but the fact that renders this concept an element of uniqueness is that this EV is a cross between a bike and a car.

Radhika- Can you describe the ethos of your designs (especially the concept of SPIRIT).
According to you what are the key design ingredients required to cater to the South American market?

Leonid- The base to my designs is a mixture between simplicity and functionality. I believe that something elegant should not be necessarily expensive.
It seems to me that the factors required to conquer the South American market are, economy and accessibility rather than the design itself. I think these would be the key ingredients in order to develop an interest towards design.

Radhika-Does any particular automobile design stand out for you as the epitome of what you are trying to achieve?

Leonid-
It would be the perfect combination between functionality and form.

Radhika- Leonid do you have a dream design? I hope you won’t mind sharing it with us.

Leonid-I think many designs are firstly born in dreams and then brought to reality. That’s why I try to daydream , when I want that concept to materialize.

Radhika-Do you prefer a powerful engine or an essence of aesthetics in your design?

Leonid-
I believe in a balance of both the elements. I think that human effort must be firstly directed towards solving problems . Appearance should be given the second priority.
