Mercedes is set to launch its new SLR McLaren super sports car in September. The car inherits the carbon fiber technology from the formula one cars and is expected to maintain high degree of safety and stiffness. The car will be powered by an AMG V8 compressor engine delivering 460 kW/626 bhp to speed the car upto 332 km/h. The new Roadster benefits technically from the many years of experience of Mercedes-Benz and its Formula 1 partner McLaren. Apart from two aluminum engine frames, its body is made entirely of carbon-fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) materials, making the vehicle an exception among high-performance sports cars.
The fully retraceable roof, available in three different colors, will perfectly suite all the climates and opens semi-automatically in less than ten seconds. The company has brought in some improvements in the wind tunnel design to provide it with better handling, aeroacoustics and aerodynamics at high speeds. The car is also equipped with racing-type chassis featuring high-performance carbon-ceramic brake discs, semi-aniline-leather-upholstered carbon-fiber bucket seats accompanied with seat pads of different sizes, dual-zone automatic air-conditioning, a high-quality BOSE premium sound system, a multifunction sport steering wheel with gear-change paddles, and a navigation system with integral radio and CD player.
It is not a bad idea to spend £350,000 for a super car like this.
