merc future with fuel cells

Mercedes-Benz is soon likely to arrive with fuel cell cars with production starting from 2010. By 2014-15 economically viable fuel-cell cars will be available with 100,000 of them being produced ever year. Fuel-cell cars have finally become a reality after remaining in the concept stage for a long time.

Fuel-cell cars from Mercedes-Benz are believed to be ultra-safe, automatically guided by intelligent cruise control systems. Fuel cells use hydrogen to create electricity and do not emit any noxious greenhouse gas but only water vapor.

The mass production of fuel-cell cars will start at an extreme low level in the B-Class series. It is now a challenge for the premium luxury cars to cut carbon dioxide emissions. Besides Mercedes-Benz, Honda is also seriously considering production of fuel-cell cars starting with the production of FCX Clarity for the Californian market.

Trying to expand its list of cars powered with cleaner and economical energy sources, Mercedes-Benz is expected to produce a diesel-petrol convergence engine, named DiesOtto in 2015. Next year it will launch its new petrol-electric SClass hybrid car.
