The F700 is a latest concept research car from Mercedes that comes loaded with as much as it can fit in. It delivers a picture of the company’s futuristic approach and what its buffs can look for in future. It also gives a peek into the bounty of technologies which will pave their way in the future production models.
The concept comes with so many technologies fitted in the car that it looks as a model out from some science fiction movie.
It has a1.8 liter direct-injection ‘DIESOTTO,’ four-cylinder gasoline engine which uses turbocharging along with a dual mode hybrid system alike that of Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid, the BMW X6 Active Hybrid and BMW X6 Active Hybrid.
The engine delivers a massive 238 horsepower, all this with a small displacement gasoline engine, and an additional 20HP is added by the electric motor amounting to a total power of 258 horses. It is enough power to take the F-700 from 0- 60mph in just under 7.5 seconds.
A proficient power train enables vehicle to deliver 100 km in just 5.3 liters of gasoline, emitting 127 grams of CO2 per kilometer.
A board member from Daimler Chrysler Dr. Thomas Weber explains the company’s plan of making a gasoline powered car, which strands at par with diesel engines in terms of fuel consumption. According to him the DIESOTTO concept is a major breakthrough in this direction, as it combines the best from both the spark-ignition and the diesel engines.
He adds that “Researchers and developers need challenges and great goals, for this reason we think much farther ahead at Mercedes-Benz: we are going to combine the strengths and advantages of both combustion principles in one innovative engine concept. The DIESOTTO drive is a major step forward.”
Except for the Powertrain the concept comes uploaded with LED lighting for both front and rear, active pre-scan suspension for better handling and an easy ride and an active body control system. Its front seat head rests comes fitted with display screens and also there is a 20″ 3D LCD monitor for the rear comfort.
The F700 also features a new control interface replacing its traditional old COMMAND system. The concept makes use of a New SERVO-Human Machine Interface (HMI) system which shows vehicle information at the base of its windshield making the routine HVAC and multi media controls obsolete. This new addition also adds up in making a ride safer as the driver can keep focus on the rode instead of going through the console again and again.
The driver can have an access to the vehicle controls such as the DISTRONIC PLUS active cruise control system with a scroll wheel mounted on the steering. Operations of some typical nature such as turning the head lights on and off, windshield wipers, front and rear defrosters are operated with an automatic sensors.
You can watch out for a young female avatar at the headline of the HMI interface with a cool voice. The avatar can be a virtual assistant who can access to the address books, online database and will also read email messages for you.
Well now if you want to take a grab of all these features, you must know that this is just a concept car and you will have to wait until all of this makes into the production models. Although some of them like DIESOTTO engine, Servo-HMI, PRE-SCAN system will definitely make it through the production line up.
