The very classy Mercedes Benz SL63 will now do “safety car” duty in Formula-1 as the latest of the Mercedes Benz’s which have been Safety cars in F1 for the past 12 years. Sure, being in F1 means having enough meat under the hood to do some good laps leading the F1 cars during the formation laps and other safety laps.
So this latest merc gets some AMG treatment. For those of you wondering what AMG is, AMG is a German car tuning specialist firm which specialises in tuning up and kitting out merc’s. AMG has worked it’s magic again and made the sporty SL63 race ready with a monstrous 6.3 litre V8 engine which gives the SL63 a lot of meat in the form of 525 horses which is transmitted to the SL63 wheels by a sequential seven speed AMG speedshift.
The AMG treatment doen’t just end with the engine. New bodywork to make the Sporty SL63 even sportier include the sporty hood, spoiler lips, 19 inch triple scoop alloys and a high gloss radiator grille. And Obviously, the SL63 would like to be heard nice and loud. For this, AMG has given the SL a brand new sport exhaust system with chromed twin tail pipes which look more bling than sporty. Sorry about that AMG.
And following big brother SL will be the smaller merc medical car, the Mercedes C63 AMG which will have the same 6.3 litre V8, albeit in detuned form putting out 457 horses. The C63 will follow the F1 cars while the SL62 will lead the F1 cars during the Formation and Safety laps. With such hot cars like these following the F1 cars, the FIA might as well start a Safety car race. That’s sounds pretty exciting to me, What say people?
