A survey carried out by YouGov Plc for MINI, came up with a ‘revelation’: customers believe diesel powered cars are way behind hybrids when it comes to clean emissions. This has been the attitude of the customers since a long time, and it is not entirely correct.
Diesel-powered cars may be cleaner, if not as clean as the hybrid-electric models. The MINI Cooper D, exhales only 104g/km of Carbon dioxide, while giving an excellent fuel economy of 72.4mpg.
MINI, powered by a 110 hp 1.6 liter 4-cylinder diesel sees the Prius eye to eye when it comes to Carbon emissions. The Prius also releases 104g/km of CO2, while the Honda Civic Hybrid gives out 109g of CO2 for every km it travels.
To save fuel and decrease carbon emissions, MINI makes use of Brake Energy Regeneration to reduce drag on the engine. The Auto Start-Stop Function and the Switch Point Display do their bit in reducing fuel consumption for this sporty hatch.
The survey must be treated as an eye opener for the customers. A number of diesel models that have low emissions are in the market today, the MINI Cooper D is just one strong and sporty example.
