MINI’s next SUV, called Monte could be produced in the USA. BMW’s Spartanburg, North Carolina plant is being considered for the production of this upcoming SUV. MINI’s plant in Oxford, England is currently running at full capacity, so there is little scope of the Monte finding room there. The Spartanburg plant builds SUVs so it would be more suitable for the production of Monte.
The Monte will be powered by two 1.6L gasoline engines, one of which will be the 175hp turbo four from the Cooper S. A new 1.4L diesel engine could also be offered. Monde is slated to go into production late next year. Prices will be in the range of £16,500 to £20,000.
