The Beast:
When you can dream, why not just dream mighty big? That pretty much seems to be the policy at Mitsubishi with their designing team bringing out an unrealistic and fascinatingly improbable rally car for the year 2025. ‘Motorsports 2025′ is the contest that all the big boys of auto world want to win at the LA Auto Show. Mitsubishi has rolled out a purely fictional ‘dirt racer’ for the year 2025 as its attempt to win the prize. This future rally race car seems looks like a vehicle out of the Star Wars series and the technology behind it only seems weirder.
The Machine:
Dubbed as the MMR25, the future rally racer is light-weight, super efficient and sports a powertrain with in-wheel electric motors that are supplemented by 8 additional engines. The fuel cell is supposedly good enough to run 1000 miles on a single charge and the eight independent motors in each wheel would make this the world’s first 8 x 4 wheel drive! The surprises do not just end there as it holds on the inside a 360 view of the outside world on monitors that transfers images to the driver at real pace. The vehicle can apparently move even sideways with ease and works on special ‘Oblique Aerodynamics’.

The Thrill:
Apart from the fact that Mitsubishi are not really winning a single rally race right now, if they plan like this, they will not win one even in 2025. While having concept contests is cool, they must be based in reality at some level. Otherwise they turn out into meaningless exercises like the MMR25 and amount to nothing beyond stuff for a cartoon series. MMR25 will surely not race around in the year 2025.

Sounds too good to be true. Oblique aerodynamics, I believe :) The usage of nano fibers to reduce weight, panoramic 360-degrees view and specially designed spoilers, etc. are believable. However, getting a car to stay omnidirectional would require a Herculean effort. 2025 may not be realistic enough. Somebody pinch Mitsubishi.
All the more true mate considering that Mitsubishi are not able to win a single rally race right now. Sometimes it just feels that all that technology and brilliant minds are being wasted away in such stuff. Pinch Mitsubishi is right... :)
Maybe not completely wasted. Somebody might get inspired by Mitsubishi’s ”oblique aerodynamics” and do something more realistic. If that happens, the MMR25 can save face.
Hey is the car floating or air born... anyway it would be exciting to watch WRC and watch this cars race like hell went loose more of it at Auto Parts News
