An electric version of Mitsubishi’s ‘i car’, the iMiEV is the Japanese carmakers’ first venture into the eco-drive category. The name of the ‘MiEV’ includes the car’s model ‘i’ and is an acronym for ‘Mitsubishi innovative electric vehicle’. Though the car is also fitted with a small gas engine, the MiEV primarily uses one electric motor to power the rear wheels and features charging ports on both sides to charge up its lithium ion batteries. A single full charge can last upto 100 miles for the simple, one-speed transmission while its spacious interior houses a stereo, air conditioning, navigation, and a digital speedometer. Talk about going the mile!

Instead of being ‘i car’, it should be e-car. Nevertheless it is a step in the right direction. And if we continue to exhaust our fossil fuel with the same pace then in future we would have no option but to switch to electric cars or similar alternatives. Sadly, Reva, the Indian electric car received a very lukewarm reaction. I hope that Mitsubishi’s ‘i car’, becomes a hit and popular amongst masses. Hats off to Mitsubishi for paving the way for further future innovation.
