The moon is again in sight, and countries all over the world are planning to launch missions for the moon. NASA, which was the first to reach the moon, is also planning to set foot on moon again, sometime in the next decade. To this end, NASA unveiled a new vehicle that would be used by astronauts to scout the lunar surface. Currently undergoing tests in the Arizona desert, the new lunar prototype does look like a breakthrough.
The battery powered rover can move at a speed of 10kmph, and cover 625 miles of ground on a single charge. Two astronauts can comfortably sit on the leather seats, and they won’t even need to wear spacesuits inside this rover. In its SPR or Small Pressurized Rover configuration, the prototype gets a module on top of its chassis, allowing astronauts to do away with space suits. Space suits stay out of the vehicle, waiting to be used when the astronauts decide to take a walk on the moon. Another configuration allows astronauts to get on and off the vehicle with ease, but they need to be in the spacesuits all the time.
With NASA’s plans to set up a base on moon for further exploration of space, this rover is definitely going to get a big role in the plans.
