The latest offering from Honda, the Crossroad will hit Japanese showrooms on Friday. Dubbed an ‘active life navigator,’ the new Crossroad, according to Honda, combines the sporty look of an SUV with the convenience of a compact car.
Crossovers (models that combine the features of an SUV with other car types) are all the rage in the auto industry right now it seems, and although Crossroad may not be the most innovative name that Honda has ever come up with, this latest model comes charged with a 1.8-liter of 2.0-liter i-VTEC engine mated to a five-speed automatic transmission. The Crossroad has 3-row seating and the company claims that it can comfortably seat seven passengers with an overall length of 4,285mm.
Honda’s distinctive touches are evident in the attention paid to the interiors with seats enveloped in a suede finish and a sculpted instrument panel. The interiors may not be too customizable since Honda is offering a choice of just two colors for the interiors -Titanium Ivory and Black. For the exteriors though, the consumer at least has a choice of six body colors.
The Honda CR-V has been of the company’s best-selling SUVs till date and now the new Crossroad is a crucial launch for Honda, especially in the fiercely competitive Japanese market, which seems to have shown a distinct preference for compact cars of late. Expect to pay around Yen 1.93m or US$15,946 if you are thinking of buying the vehicle in Japan. Read more on Bloomberg for an interesting peek into why the Crossroad is so important for Honda.
