
The new regulations that are to be implemented in the forthcoming racing season has made Ferrari arrive with a new Formula 1 racecar. The F2008 has incorporated new Standard Electronic Control Unit (SECU) produced by McLaren Electronic Systems (MES).
The gearbox of the F2008 has undergone significant improvisation, the casing is made of carbon and the gearchange is fitted with a quick shift system guided by the SECU software for quicker shifts.
Ferrari has introduced new safety measures to the new F2008 with higher side protection around the driver’s helmet. The 056 engine’s auxiliary system, air and fuel intakes have been developed to incorporate European Union’s emission norms.
The most important feature of a racing car is no doubt its aerodynamics. The new regulations have made Ferrari introduce new aerodynamic elements in F2008 with the surface of the monocoque under the driver’s legs reduced. The suspension system has been revamped and the engine cover has furthered tapered.
Other technical features of F2008 are more or less similar to the F2007 though the new F1 car is heavier than the former. Despite of removal of a host of driver’s aids, the new F1 is simpler to manage with the revamped engine and gearchange.
