Owing to a contract dispute, owners of cars parked at the mechanized Hoboken’s Garden Street Garage in New Jersey could not claim their vehicle for several days last week. The Garage is owned by the Hoboken city while Robotic Parking of Clearwater, Florida has provided the software that runs it.

The dispute began when Robotic accused Hoboken for violating its copyright by allowing a business competitor to enter the garage. On the other hand, Hoboken accused Robotic of installing booby traps in the Garage code so that it malfunctions. During the course of the ensuing battle, Hoboken had police escort the Robotic employees few days before the contract was set to expire. A thoughtless act, I must say, as cars parked in the Garage could not be removed at any cost, since the operators were all deported by the city to jail.
Fortunately, now the battle is resolved, and I am sure much to the relief of many Hoboken’s citizens.
