At the Frankfurt Motor Show this year, Lexus is expected to bring out a new hybrid aimed squarely at the BMW 1-series and Audi A3. The hybrid-only model will seek to combine big performance with fuel efficiency, and is expected to go on sale by the end of 2010, with a sticker price in the range of £20,000 ($30k).

Top Gear blog says the new model will not be the HS250h (pictured) that the company displayed at the Detroit Auto Show, it will, be a bit smaller and far better looking. The hatchback will be based on the new Toyota Prius platform. Lexus Europe chief Andy Pfeiffenberger has said that new Lexus hybrids will enter the market to compete with the four-cylinder diesel cars there, specifically, this means the Audi A3 and BMW 1-series.
