Parent company Ford may not be doing so well, but Mazda certainly is. The Japanese vehicle manufacturer is upping the ante at the upcoming Geneva motor show with the announcement that the Mazda2 (known as Demio in Japanese markets) would be making its world premiere.

The high-profile Geneva show, considered one of the biggest in the auto industry, will run from March 6th to March 18th.

Mazda claims that the new Mazda2 is more than just a facelift of the current version. ‘Zoom-Zoom’ is Mazda’s brand slogan, and the company promises that the Mazda2 will be the first in a new generation of Zoom-Zoom vehicles. A B-segment car, the Mazda2 is a five-door hatchback and rides on a long wheelbase. There might be a two 1.3-litre engines that may be on offer with a 1.5-litre engine designed to deliver output of at least 101 horsepower.

Will the Mazda2 be imported to the key US market? Mazda says it is definitely considering the idea but reiterates that it has no intention to do so at the moment. The original Mazda2 was unveiled in November 2002 in Japan and although primarily intended for the Japanese market was a major success in many countries. The new car appears to have a more global design with slightly expanded cabin space and a wider body.
