Jaguar has received a £307 million loan from the European Investment Bank towards the development of a green car. The next-gen XJ will be the first electric-drive luxury saloon, with fuel economy at 57mpg and CO2 emissions at 120g/km. The car will go into weight saving mode, probably by extensive use of aluminum or by the use of alloy body panels.
It will be able to cover 30 miles on the batteries alone, after which an engine will kick in to charge the batteries, Chevy Volt style. With all those funds available, Jaguar must be hard at work building the car, it has committed for a 2011 launch for the vehicle.
