Mazda CX-9 and CX-7 SUVs have been given the maximum possible rating in frontal and side impact crashes by National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). No other SUV in the market has received ratings better than the CX-9 and CX-7.

Both the SUVs received a four-star rollover resistance rating. For frontal testing, the vehicle moving at 35mph is crashed into a fixed barrier. As the impact occurs, instruments measure the force of impact on the head, chest and legs of dummies placed inside the vehicle.

In the side impact test, a 3,015pound barrier moving at 38.5mph crashes into the side of the passenger compartment of the stationary vehicle. Again, the impact on head, chest and legs of the dummies is measured.

Mazda vehicles employ a number of safety systems like ABS, DSC, TPS and TMPS. In addition, the CX-9 also features a roll stability control (RSC). These SUVs also have advanced dual front airbags, front side-impact airbags and air curtains (front and rear) to make all passengers safer.
