nissan gt r for 480hp

The much touted Nissan GT-R is aiming at 480hp certification from SAE. GT-R is currently rated at 480PS, which translates into 473hp. While submitting the GT-R to SAE power certification before the supercar killer goes on sale in the USA, Nissan wants to put the power at 480hp or 486.7PS.

A move clearly aimed at the Porsche 911 Turbo, which comes with a 480hp certificate from SAE. Porsche 911 Turbo though has an edge over GT-R in terms of torque, but it’s the low cost of the GT-R with roughly equivalent performance that makes it a formidable foe for the 911 Turbo.

How Nissan will pack the extra power in the GT-R is not clear as of now, but it may come from increasing the boost from the twin-turbos. Nissan’s home market Japan will not get the 480hp GT-R. Instead, they will have to do with the 480PS already on sale there.
