If you have a love and passion for nice, luxurious cars, you must have been already attracted by the sleek, stylish and sophisticated Nisssan GT-R, right? Well, if your choice is not backed up by a solid bank account, you might as well forget about actually owning this top-quality supercar—yes, it is that expensive, with prices that can go up to even $129,000!

Dealers of the GT-R are squeezing almost the entire retail value of the car from the customers, thereby boosting up its price. They have already warned that the markups for this car will be somewhere around $20,000 to $30,000, with the markups even touching $60,000 in certain instances!

Although Nissan has promised to increase the number of GT-Rs available in the US, currently only 1500 cars enter the country, which means, each dealer receives only 2-8 cars. A dealer has even announced that it would sell the GT-Rs on a first-come, first-serve basis, instead of the usual practice of accepting deposits. This means that buyers would be forced to pay around $35,000 to $60,000 over the sticker price. With at least one dealer having a list of over 40 potential buyers, if you had not been one of the first to put in your order, you stand next to no chance of actually getting to buy it.

Nissan, however, is aware of the damaging effects that these extremely high markups might have on the GT-R sub-brand. It is monitoring prices charged by dealers closely, although not being able to control the latters’ activities. It is hoped that, in future Nissan would decide on car-allocation based on how closely the dealers’ prices match the MSRP of the cars.

Indeed, if Nissan is not able to control the high markups, the amazing GT-R might face the same fortune as the 2004 Pontiac GTO, which also had hefty markups, and finally had upto 35% slashed from its MSRP. We really wish the markups on the GT-R comes down to reasonable levels, because it is undoubtedly the best supercar in the market, and it would be a real pity if most car-lovers were not able to afford it.
