National Renewable Energy Lab Researchers are working out of their skins to invent ways of saving fuel consumed by the air-conditioner of a vehicle. The researchers believe that if successful alternatives, such as ventilated seats are invented, it would result in the driver and the other passengers requiring lesser of air to cool themselves up, in turn increasing the fuel efficiency as less of the A.C. will be used.
The NREL estimates if all passenger vehicles were outfitted with ventilated seats, the result would be 7.5 percent reduction in the use of Fuel by the A.C., saving an estimated 552 million gallons of fuel per year.
The researchers are using a ‘human thermal comfort manikin ‘dubbed ADAM for their research work. ADAM responds exactly like a human being under extreme high or low temperature conditions. All types of tests are being conducted on ADAM and all the response from him is fed as data into the computer, for further research work. Apart from the ventilated seats, other options such as different seat materials, reflective glass insulators and varied angles of the airflow from the conditioner are being tested.
This Attempt from NREL is something what all researchers globally should draw inspiration from, because the maximum focus these days is on creating Hybrids and in this over exhilarated rage to create Hybrids ,people somewhere have forgotten the fact that Gasoline is the number one choice for fuel .Thus ,Researchers globally should focus on ways to save fuel on an Efficient basis.
