The writing on the wall is that people want to own the Challenger SRT8 and there’s a huge number waiting to get their hands on the muscle car. Dodge started taking pre orders for the car on Monday, and received 4,300 orders on the first day itself! More than 6,000 orders have come in since Monday.
Production version SRT8 will be unveiled at the Chicago Auto Show in February 2008. Dodge had earlier said that it will build only 5,000 instances of the car for model year 2008. Apparently, many people will have to wait for a year before they get their hands on this car or if Dodge changes its mind, which is unlikely to happen.
Powered by a 6.1-L HEMI V8 mated to a five-speed automatic transmission, the Challenger SRT 8 is available in three colors: black, silver or HEMI orange. HEMI orange surfaced as the color of choice for customers and bagged more than half of the orders. Deliveries of the SRT8 will begin next spring. For now, Chrysler has promised some ‘Eye Candy’ by the end of this week.
