What happens when you take a motorcycle, a car and a gyrocopter and put it all together? You get the PALV. The PALV, an acronym for Personal Air and Land Vehicle is a very smart flying car concept that is currently being made by enterpreneur John Bakker, Spark Design Engineering and a host of other partners. With this vehicle, you can say bye-bye to traffic jams as you can just take off.

For that, you just need 50 metres of traffic free asphalt. The PALV works on autogyro technology and will fly at less than 4000 feet, thanks to a foldable propeller on top and one on the rear. The rear propeller is powered by the PALV’s engine and once the PALV goes fast enough on the land the top propeller will start working due to the natural force created by forward motion to give the PALV upward thrust.

Landing too is made simpler as the PALV will land vertically like a helicopter. Once on the ground the two adults who sit in the enclosed cabin will be transported by three wheels like a conventional trike. Taking things further, the PALV can even corner like regular motorcycles. Top speed on the streets will be a fast 200 kmph and in air the PALV will fly just a tad slower at 195 Kmph. If these performance figures impress you, wait for this one. The PALV can go 70 miles per gallon. Superlative is an understatement. Here’s hoping that the very smart and efficient PALV makes it to production very soon.
