Eco-friendly automobiles are the coolest thing to hit the roads in the last couple of years and they will continue to sell like hot cakes not just because people care about the environment, but also because they also like to brag about their weird looking (Read that as special features) new car that goes easy on the planet. So every automobile company is trying to do its best to own a share in the eco-friendly pie. Electric cars that are powered by solar panels are not all that common. But who said the Venturi’s Eclectic was ever common?
The original Eclectic from the Monaco-based Venturi Cars was one of the strangest vehicles on display during 2006’s Paris Motor Show. This environmentally friendly golf cart look-a-like featured an electric power-train charged up by solar panels on the roof of the golf-cart or a small wind-powered generator for when the sun is down. So basically the car was one of the cleanest or probably ‘the cleanest’ car to hit the show and subsequently the roads. As odd as the original car was, Venturi sold its full run of 200 cars and is now planning a second generation model for this year’s Paris Show of 2008.
The new car will be called the Eclectic II and it’s expected to be smaller and cheaper than the original, sold out Eclectic that cost as much as $34,000. The company revealed that some of the new technologies planned for the car could be on display at the Ecological Vehicles and Renewable Energy (EVER) conference held in Monaco next month. Developers decided to leave the power-train largely unchanged and instead focus on the original car’s size, weight, materials and pricing order to answer the needs of a larger market. So basically we might get a lighter and more efficient vehicle that is also priced a lot less. The eclectic is a very good choice for a “Green Buff” and will also give you plenty of attention.
