Peugeot has straightaway melted down the high of Toyota Pirus by promising to roll out hybrid diesel engines that give 82 miles per gallon by 2010. The French carmaker is set to take the green-automotive market by storm and gave glimpses of the future ahead by showcasing its Peugeot 307 and the Citroen C4 hybrid diesel models at the Geneva Auto Show this month.
Keeping in mind the buying trend and the fact that Diesel engines are more fuel efficient, the Peugeot’s move will only be rewarded if it somehow cut down the whopping cost difference.
PSA is planning to target other components of its diesel hybrid vehicles such as batteries, electric motor and regenerative braking system, to cut short the difference with diesel models down to around $1,200 to $1,800. As compared to diesel models the PSA Peugeot-Citroen’s hybrid diesel models cut fuel consumption by 28% and carbon dioxide emissions by 39%.
