The Beast

What happens when a group of car designers team up with their engineering brethren from the biking side? Well, you have a hybrid three-wheeler that functions like a car and offers the convenience of a two-wheeler. Peugeot’s HYmotion3 Compressor is built on similar lines. In recent times, we have been witness to a paradigm shift in design parameters. Manufacturers have begun to focus predominantly on eco-conformance, throwing in performance and style just for the flavor. The HYmotion3 compressor has a hybrid engine, with two electric motors and a supercharged petrol engine for swappable and combined drives. Needless to say, the fuel consumption and emission ratings will give the regulatory authorities a lot to cheer about.

The Machine

The supercharged petrol engine, located at the rear, pumps out 20hp, while the two motors offer 5hp each for the front wheels. As a combination, they deliver a maximum output of 29hp, which explains the 117mpg fuel consumption and 47g/km CO2 emission during the cycle. The scooter-car offers adequate protection for its inmates with the help of an expansive windscreen and additional roll-over bars.

The Thrill

By now, we would have developed a fair idea of where the automotive industry is heading. For the rush-seekers, the fact that high-end performance is being compromised might be disappointing. However, all is not lost. We believe low-weight vehicles like the HYmotion3 compressor offer a lot of scope for the ideal performance-emission balance, although it isn’t exemplified explicitly in this vehicle. Perhaps, the stage has already been set and it is just a matter of time before we see 200bhp cars running on ultra-powerful electric motors or fuel cells. For now, let’s just dream!
