If things work out well, a commercial electric car might soon start rolling thanks to Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd. The company recently announced that it has developed a ‘Plug-in Stella Concept,’ an electric vehicle based on its ‘Stella’ K-car. The concept makes use of the same electric vehicle technology used in ‘R1e’. Electric Cars are in demand in Japan, which has seen increasing levels of pollution. In fact, the car manufacturers in Japan are under increasing pressure from both the government and the environmental groups to produce cars that are green and environmentally friendly. At the Hokkaido Toyako Summit, five units of the ‘Plug in Stella Concept shall be given to governmental officials and one for test rides at the Environmental Showcase. A unit is going to be given away to the postal department as well. The four seater would weigh only 1,060 kg and can reach a maximum speed of 100 Km/h. The car would use lithium ion batteries and are expected to be commercially viable.
