
After the introduction of Cayenne SUV and the Cayman especially, Porsche jumped from 32nd place to first in a leading auto-quality survey. Conducted by in J.D. Power & Associates, the survey studies new vehicles in the first 90 days of U.S. ownership.
Refining the categories for 2006, J.D gave separate scores for quality as seen in defect and design. Porsche’s defect score was 15 points above average, second only to Toyota’s Lexus brand. However, its design score was 17 above the industry average and 10 points ahead of Lexus.
The best European car factories were Magna International Inc.’s plant in Austria, which builds the BMW X3. Porsche’s Boxster plant, Valmet Automotive’s plant in Finland ranked third.
