Renewable energy is the watchword of the current generation. With manufacturers persistently clamoring for cleaner, greener and non-exhaustible fuel options for their automotives. Despite the proliferation of solar energy and fuel cell technology, these alternatives haven’t had an umbrella effect. This has been attributed to issues pertaining to recharge, portability and long-term practicality. With the PowerPark solar carport, Romag seems to have found a solution to one, if not all, of the issues. As the name suggests, this concept is a car shed, powered by photovoltaic cells, that acts as a recharge station for electric plug-in cars. PowerPark can double up as a parking lot in the future.
The 1.7KW cells used in a single solar canopy can generate around 1100kW hours every year. And to ensure that the excess energy is not wasted, the set-up will be connected to an electrical grid. PowerPark is currently available in the United Kingdom, with parking stations planned for countries in the Middle East and Far East in a few years time.
