Julie Boulet, Quebec’s tough talking minister for transport, wants Canadians to stop speeding. To this effect, she has also proposed an anti-speeding legislation that would charge nearly $485 for speeding at 60mph in a 30mph urban zone and assess double the current five points for the driver’s driving license.
Reporters have found that the minister herself is not willing to ‘walk the talk’ with her own chauffeured car repeatedly zooming above speed limits. Her car clocked nearly 82mph in the Montreal area, which, according to the new regulations she proposes would have translated into $710 fine and ten points for her driver.
A newspaper Canadian Gazette has called Boulet’s silent approval to her driver’s speeding as ‘limousine syndrome.’ The Quebec Premier, Jean Charest is standing by Boulet and says that she will continue to ‘guide’ the speed limit legislation.
