The Britons appear to be on a mission to take hold of as many speed records as possible. It’s not just the Land Speed Record and the Steam-powered vehicle record, they also have eyes set on the Water Speed Record. A project headed by Nigel Macknight aims to end Australia’s 30 year reign on the record and bring it to the UK, which held the record 40 years ago.
Salford University is working on wind tunnel tests on the Quicksilver team’s craft for pitch, yaw and roll. This will ensure that the craft stays steady and on-course as it goes to the top speed of 330mph. The University expects its calculations and work on the high speed craft to benefit ordinary passenger crafts.
Quicksilver will go for full-scale testing next year, and be ready to break the current 317mph record soon.
