Humvees

In order to better protect the American soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan, 25,300 Humvees have been upgraded with more armor at a cost of tens of millions of dollars at the Armor Holdings Inc plant, near Cincinnati. However, contrary to the objective, the redesigned M1114 Humvees have caused more deaths rather then protecting the soldiers - reason being that the heavily armored Humvee has a tendency to roll over.

Scott Badenoch, who is working with the army to design a lighter-armored vehicle, comments:

I believe the up-armouring has csused more deaths than it has saved. The whole thing is a formula for disaster.

Scott is right - out of the 85 soldiers killed in Humvee accidents 60 died due to roll over incidents. In addition to that, out of the 337 Humvee related injuries 149 was caused by its rollovers. So far, 27 gunners have been killed in Humvee accidents since 2001. and these gunners are most vulnerable in rollover accidents.
