The history of automobile designing is long and most interesting to follow. People have tried some of the wackiest possible designs. More often than not, it is a gamble, a roll of the dice. It sometimes goes on to pay off and we get a design that is hailed as ground breaking and something very special. Most often though, designs just get knocked down by those cynics who think they know all. Car doors have seen many such changes. They have ranged from the simple normal square to the stylish butterfly wings. Now it is time the Dragon Fly took over that department of design!
Renault has a new variation and perhaps a new landmark car in regards to the designing of the doors. It is the all new Megane Coupe Concept show-car released in Geneva last night, has twin, two-part “dragonfly wing” doors. The quite beautiful design will form the basis of an upcoming model. The Geneva Motor Show last night saw the unveiling of this amazing and quite breathtaking piece of designing and aesthetics. This sure is not the car in which Renault and Fernando Alonso won the twin world championships, but the former world champion might be wishing he owned one of these.
The car sports a wide array of technological features, including mobile-phone operated ignition and door locks, plus four-zone climate control, touch-screen multi-media players and ‘stop and start’ system. But it is the Dragon Fly Wings that completely steal the entire spotlight once they spread to their fullest. The dragonfly wing doors open to reveal futuristic, sleek and stylish interior with four independent seats, Fire Red lacquer seat structures and black leather upholstery.

Megane Coupe Concept is powered by a 200hp, two-liter turbocharged petrol engine which delivers maximum torque of 280Nm at 2,600rpm and peak power of 200hp at 5,800rpm, to ensure response and flexibility at all engine speeds for everyday motoring pleasure. This is of course an addition to the marvelous futuristic retractable Dragon wings, which are sure bound to make this car stand out from the crowd. The latest concept previews a future compact production coupe and Renault’s more fluid, sportier styling, following widespread acclaim for the stunning Laguna Coupe Concept at last year’s Frankfurt motor show.
Renault has been quite and has gone under the radar on the build up to the grand show. But when the moment came, it just stole the thunder with a car that I will remember for almost ever. Love the concept and the creative brilliance behind it. Anything that looks that special and stunning needs to roll out soon so that we can get a better look at it.
