Nissan developing a hybrid vehicle is not totally unthinkable, it has only the Altima sedan hybrid in its lineup, and clearly, the automaker needs more hybrids in the lineup. The Essence concept that debuted at the Geneva Motor Show is a step in the right direction and the automaker is expected to debut a hybrid vehicle developed in-house by next year.
Rumor says Nissan will bring the 370Z hybrid sports car in 2012, trying to reach the market before Honda’s CR-Z. That will be difficult to achieve, so the hybrid may come with more power to compensate, getting juice from the same 3.7-liter V-6 complemented by an electric motor and plug-in charging capability. Fuel efficiency for the hybrid will likely be near the 35mpg mark.
