Urban transport needs solutions and we have seen a number of concepts that look to combat the surge of vehicles on the roads. Scarab Project by David Gonçalves is another concept looking for solutions to the growing problem. The single-seat concept has sleek looks and scores high in the looks department. Scarab parks in a vertical position to minimize use of parking space, and changes its stance according to speed when on the road. This obviously translates into decreased use of space by the vehicle, which in turn contributes positively to reducing the traffic scene.
Main energy pack of the concept can be powered by battery, biofuel ICE or a fuel cell, the gadgetry in Scarab includes Lidar, radar, transponders and GPS. What irks us in all such (driverless) solutions is the requirement of dedicated pathways. Scarab will require dedicated paths with embedded transponders in the road to guide its path. The concept uses modern day technology that is easily available, but the requirement of dedicated paths is perhaps the biggest negative of this concept.

Thanks, David
