Despair and euphoria about the changes are just illusions. They are neither exciting nor disappointing. Changes are the fact of life. California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger is all set to scuffle against the changes, but this time not with the muscles. The Governor insisted US Mayors to take the lead in combat against global warming and generating an economy based on ‘clean’ technology.
Global warming issues a major threat to the world and the Bush Administration has opposed inserting precise limits on greenhouse gas emissions. But Schwarzenegger has signed a law requiring that California reduce emissions by a predictable 25 percent until 2020.
According to the Governor, California and the other states will not wait for any law making by the federal government to trim down greenhouse emissions liable for climate change.
Schwarzenegger addressing the 75th annual meeting of the U.S. Conference of Mayors where environment was the main agenda, cited:
Washington is just a little dot on the map. You are making up America. So we don’t have to wait for Washington to get aboard.
The governor quoted his state’s own environmental proposals and praised efforts such as a proposal by New York’s Mayor Michael Bloomberg to make all taxis in his city fuel-efficient hybrids by 2012. About 200 Mayors from around the United States attended the meeting.
Schwarzenegger urged not to waste any time as the crisis is real and huge. He requested cities to push polluting industries to change their practices in order to compete globally.
According to him, California, with its stringent auto emission standards, can do a lot to save the US automakers. They are on the run to grow a whole new economy based on novelty and clean technology that will spark billions and billions of dollars of new investments and create tons of new jobs.
The anxiety shown by the Mayor and his encouraging proceedings definitely reveals his heroic identity and this time a real life hero has emerged to save the world.
